This test cover the following five methods: Practice A to F. Susceptibility to intergranular attack associated with the precipitation of chromium carbides is readily detected in all five tests. Sigma phase in wrought chromium-nickel molybdenum steels, which may or may not be visible in the microstructure, can result in high corrosion rates only in nitric acid. Sigma phase in titanium or columbium stabilized alloys and cast molybdenum-bearing stainless alloys, which may or may not be visible in the microstructure, can result in high corrosion rates in both the nitric acid and ferric sulphate-sulphuric acid solutions.

PTS performs HIC test to evaluate the resistance of pipeline and pressure vessel plate steels to Hydrogen Inducted Cracking caused by hydrogen absorption from aqueous sulfide corrosion. An unstressed test specimen is exposed to a solution at ambient temperature and pressure and after a specified time, the test specimen is removed and evaluated.

This is the most commonly used salt spray for testing of inorganic and organic coatings, especially where such tests are used for material or product specifications. Salt Spray testing is a tool for evaluation the uniformity of thickness and degree of porosity of metallic and nonmetallic protective coatings. A number of samples can be tested at once depending upon their size.

A microscopy technique mainly focused on the usage of the Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) detector coupled to the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to examine surfaces of post-corrosion test coupons. it is used to identify and determine the elemental composition and nature of the corrosion deposits.

Standardless elemental composition of surface deposits and contaminants can be determined by this spectroscopy method.
